Press Release – Billings Clinic Internal Medicine Residency program receives accreditation

Billings, MT— The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has announced the accreditation of the Billings Clinic Internal Medicine Residency program, the first Internal Medicine Residency in Montana. Billings Clinic applied to the ACGME last fall and completed the residency site evaluation process in February 2013. The decision from the Council accredits the residency program for three years.

The ACGME is a private, non-profit organization that accredits about 8,700 residency programs in 130 specialties and subspecialties that educate about 109,000 residents. Its mission is to improve health care by assessing and advancing the quality of resident physicians’ education through exemplary accreditation.

Montana is among the most successful states for retaining physicians who complete a residency program in the state, with a retention rate of 60.1-75% according to 2011 data from the Association of American Medical Colleges.
